Looking for a new backpack for going back to school?
I know I always had a hard time choosing one, but if I were to go back to college today, I’d buy a Voltaic Solar Powered Backpack. The entire front of this bag is covered in solar panels, allowing it to collect a lot of power during the day. It’s also very sturdily built so that you can use it for just about anything from camping and hiking to walking around campus or as a laptop bag. Just like a standard backpack, it features several pockets and different places to store stuff.
The biggest difference, of course, is the battery pack that collects solar power and the 11 different adaptors the backpack features. With only about six hours of solar charge time, this backpack can power a cell phone! It can also charge up your MP3 player, GPS system, digital camera, and your PDAs. It isn’t meant to charge laptops—they need more power than the Voltaic can really provide. The backpack does include an USB adaptor and a car charger, though, so you can use it to charge items even when the bag doesn’t have a full solar battery.
The other thing I really love about the Voltaic is that the bag itself is made from recycled soda bottles. The entire body of the bag is made from PET plastic, which is some of the most non-biodegradable plastic out there. It’s really cool to see people finding a way of using this plastic so that it doesn’t end up in landfills.
