Gujarat. The New State of Power?

Solar power plants are being developed all over the world, but none is bigger than the one planned to be built in the state of Gujarat in India.   This plant is still in the planning phases, but with a power output of 5 gigawatts this will be the world largest solar installation project.  Additionally, the facility will produce raw materials and manufacture all the panels on site.  This manufacturing integration will reduce project costs to an estimated 500 million dollars.  The powere produced at the facility will be sold at a low price of 10 cents per unit.  This solar project will have five times the power output of a nuclear or coal plant, and is part of Prime Minister ManMohan Singh’s climate change initiative.  Prior to this project the largest solar installation project was in the Mojave Desert and expected to produce 900 Megawatts.
