Using inspiration from nature, designer Vivien Muller created the Solar Cell Tree Charger to serve as functional technology art. The solar cell tree charges uses 54 miniature solar panels to collect energy and then stores it in a battery. The harnessed power can later be used to power portable devices such as a cell phone, iPod, or Mp3 player using attached cables. This decorative tree’s branches can be individually repositioned to maximize energy collection. This is a critical feature that can be utilized if the tree is in a location that has unidirectional light. Ecological and beautiful at the same time. I love it!

What a great concept. It’s making being green chic! I think these types of products will catch on quickly, although I also think once people realize the benefits of storing energy like this, they will move onto less aesthetic and more functional products.
