Green Microgym creates energy from workout

Instead of just burning energy at the gym, your workout can now create energy! Green Microgym in Portland, Oregon, which opened a couple of days ago, uses the energy expended by its members to create energy to powers some of its machines.  While they will only be able to power about 20-25% of the machines power this way at the moment, the goal is to operate the machines 100% using the power created in the gym.  Currently, the remaining energy is supplied using solar panels.  The founder and owner of the gym, Adam Boesel, claims its the first human powered gym in the United States.  There is a similar gym in Hong Kong.  If Adam decides to expand to California, he’s got one guaranteed member!

I’ve seen this popping up in a few places in the last few years. Unfortunately the amount of power generated is barely worth the trouble according to what I have seen. This is also kind of like the green nightclubs that are growing in popularity.
